“Public service lawyers as pioneering advocates: Haben Girma at TEDxBaltimore 2014”

advocacyWhy do we NEED Accessibility?

An amazing and insightful video from ( TEDxBaltimore 2014) showing how the Public Service lawyers like Haben Girma are becoming Pioneer advocates.

I wouldn’t have had known and understood the necessity of accessibility in our daily lives if I wouldn’t have the accident followed by a major spinal surgery.

In my everyday life, I need to think of alternate ways to perform some simple tasks like driving, lifting more than 20 pounds, or depending on other people, be it family members or friends to help me, etc., which in turn sometimes lead to frustrations.

But, my invisible physical disability helped me understand and empathize with my students, connect, with them and I try my best to help, support and advocate for them based on their unique special needs. I also teach my students, the power of self-advocacy.
